MileIQ

A mileage tracker that logs every drive automatically in the background. You swipe each drive left for personal or right for business, and it builds an IRS-ready log for tax deductions and reimbursement. Microsoft acquired its maker, Mobile Data Labs, in November 2015.

MileIQ tracked every drive in the background, and you swiped each one as business or personal. I joined as its founding designer, the first in-house, before Microsoft acquired the company in 2015. My sprints pointed at a bigger vision, a suite of IQ apps for expenses and visits, a One IQ super-app to hold them, and early chat-style concepts for auto-classification and rules. After the acquisition I became the team's first Senior Designer at Microsoft, then IC Lead and Manager as it grew.
